History of SIG
Sprague Israel Giles was founded in 1958 by David Sprague and Mike Israel. Ten years later, Leon Giles joined the firm and eventually became a partner, thus forming Sprague Israel Giles. Inc., commonly called “SIG.” Upon Mike’s retirement, Leon took over leadership of the firm. Our most recent past president is Sean Corry, who joined SIG in 1989, and served as president from Leon’s retirement in 2008 until his own retirement in 2018.
SIG has always been located in the heart of Seattle’s downtown core. Our customers benefit from excellent service provided by some of the most knowledgeable insurance professionals in the Puget Sound area. Our primary goal has always been and will remain customer retention. We achieve this by consistently meeting our customers’ needs and creating value for them. We are proud that much of our business growth over the years has come by way of referrals.
SIG has grown to be a successful, well respected company, handling upwards of $100 million in premium each year. For our success we must thank our customers.
SIG in the Community
Sprague Israel Giles has a proud history of community involvement. The firm’s principals and employees have served on many nonprofit boards and regularly volunteer their time with nonprofit agencies, many of which are SIG clients. Our firm is consistently recognized by United Way of King County for being at the top of the list for giving on a per employee basis for companies in our industry.
On the Employee Benefits side, we have a well-deserved reputation for advocacy and reform. State legislators and regulators have heard SIG employees testify many times in support of bills that would improve coverage, lower costs, or make health care more accessible.
SIG Today
SIG’s current ownership consists of John Policar, President, and Rob Karl, Marnie White and Monica Cripe, Vice Presidents. These individuals, along with our entire staff strive to give our clients expert advice and consultation on all insurance related needs. Our goal is to help you understand your risks, insure you appropriately, save you money and stand up for you when a claim occurs. We believe our service to our clients is second to none.
Today, we continue in the traditions practiced by our leaders. We continue to ensure we provide our clients with thoughtful and personal attention, understand the insurance contracts, and provide effective advocacy.
